Limitless Parlays Glossary

Key prediction market, DeFi, and blockchain terms every Limitless Exchange trader should know. From CLOB mechanics to Base L2 infrastructure.

Whether you are new to Limitless Exchange or an experienced prediction market trader, understanding the terminology is essential for building profitable parlays. This glossary covers the most important concepts in alphabetical order by category.

Platform and Infrastructure Terms

Base L2

Base is the Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain developed by Coinbase using the Optimism (OP Stack) rollup technology. Base provides sub-cent transaction fees and 2-second block times, making it ideal for high-frequency prediction market trading. Limitless Exchange runs entirely on Base.

CLOB (Central Limit Order Book)

A trading system where buyers and sellers post limit orders at specific prices. The matching engine fills orders when buy and sell prices cross. Limitless uses a CLOB as its primary trading engine, allowing precise price execution for parlay builders who want to set exact entry points.

AMM (Automated Market Maker)

A protocol that uses a mathematical formula (typically constant-product) to provide always-available liquidity without requiring individual counterparties. On Limitless, the AMM serves as a backstop when the CLOB order book is thin, ensuring traders can always enter or exit positions.

Hourly Market

A prediction market on Limitless that resolves at the top of a specific hour. For example, 'Will BTC be above $108,000 at 3:00 PM UTC?' Trading is active until resolution. Hourly markets are the foundation of high-frequency parlay strategies on Limitless.

Liquidity Provider (LP)

An entity that deposits assets into an AMM pool or posts orders on the CLOB to facilitate trading. LPs earn fees from trades executed against their liquidity. On Limitless, active LPs help maintain tight spreads on popular markets like BTC and ETH hourly predictions.

On-Chain

Activity that occurs directly on a blockchain and is recorded in its public ledger. All Limitless trades, settlements, and USDC transfers are on-chain on Base, meaning they are transparent, verifiable, and immutable.

Smart Contract

Self-executing code deployed on a blockchain that automatically enforces rules and processes transactions. Limitless markets are governed by smart contracts that handle trade matching, collateral management, oracle queries, and USDC distribution without human intervention.

Oracle

A service that provides external data to smart contracts. Limitless uses price oracles that aggregate BTC, ETH, and other asset prices from multiple exchanges (Binance, Coinbase, Kraken) to determine market outcomes at resolution time.

Gas Fee

The transaction cost for executing an operation on a blockchain. On Base, gas fees are typically under $0.01 per transaction, making high-frequency trading on Limitless practical. Gas fees are paid in ETH on Base.

Rollup

A Layer 2 scaling solution that processes transactions off-chain and posts compressed proofs to the Layer 1 blockchain (Ethereum). Base is an optimistic rollup using the OP Stack. Rollups inherit Ethereum's security while providing dramatically lower fees and faster confirmation times.

Trading and Market Terms

Daily Market

A prediction market on Limitless that resolves at midnight UTC based on the closing price aggregated from major exchanges. Daily markets offer longer duration for analysis and are often combined with hourly markets in mixed-timeframe parlays.

Settlement

The process by which a prediction market determines its outcome and distributes payouts. On Limitless, settlement is automated via smart contracts and price oracle feeds. Hourly markets settle within seconds of the resolution time. There is no human review or dispute period for standard price markets.

Collateralization

The backing of financial positions with assets. On Limitless, every YES/NO outcome pair is backed by exactly $1.00 USDC held in the smart contract. This full collateralization eliminates counterparty risk and ensures automatic payout to winners.

USDC

USD Coin, a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle. USDC is the native currency on Limitless Exchange. All share prices, settlements, and payouts are denominated in USDC. On Base, USDC is natively issued (not bridged), reducing risk and complexity.

Share Price

The cost of one outcome share on Limitless, ranging from $0.01 to $0.99 USDC. The share price directly reflects the market's implied probability of that outcome occurring. A YES share at $0.65 implies a 65% probability. Winning shares pay out $1.00.

Implied Probability

The probability of an outcome as reflected by market prices. Calculated by dividing the share price by $1.00. A YES share at $0.72 implies a 72% probability. For parlays, multiply implied probabilities across legs to find the parlay's combined probability.

Parlay (Multi-Bet)

A composite wager combining two or more independent predictions. All legs must resolve correctly for the parlay to pay out. The potential payout multiplies across legs, but the probability of winning decreases with each additional leg. On Limitless, parlays are built manually by purchasing shares in multiple markets.

Bid-Ask Spread

The difference between the highest price a buyer is willing to pay (bid) and the lowest price a seller is willing to accept (ask). On liquid Limitless markets, the spread is typically 1 to 3 cents. Tighter spreads mean better execution for parlay builders.

Time Decay

The tendency of prediction market share prices to converge toward $0.00 or $1.00 as the resolution time approaches. Similar to options theta. On hourly Limitless markets, time decay is rapid and creates opportunities for traders who enter early in the market window.

Slippage

The difference between the expected execution price and the actual price received. Slippage increases with larger order sizes and thinner order books. On liquid Limitless markets (BTC, ETH hourly), slippage is minimal for positions under $5,000.

Price Impact

The effect your trade has on the market price. A $100 buy order on a liquid BTC market may move the price by $0.001 (negligible). The same order on a thin altcoin market might move the price by $0.03. Parlay builders should check price impact before executing large legs.

Resolution

The moment when a prediction market determines its final outcome. On Limitless, hourly markets resolve at the specified hour via an automated oracle query. The smart contract compares the oracle price to the market threshold and distributes USDC to winners immediately.

Correlation

The statistical relationship between two assets' price movements. BTC and ETH have high correlation (0.75 to 0.90 on short timeframes). In parlays, highly correlated legs amplify directional exposure. Uncorrelated legs provide true mathematical diversification.

Why Terminology Matters for Parlay Builders

Understanding these terms is not just academic. When you read that a BTC hourly market has a 2-cent bid-ask spread and $500K in order book depth, you should immediately know that your $200 parlay leg will execute with negligible slippage. When someone mentions time decay on a Limitless market, you should understand that entering early in the hourly window gives you more optionality than entering late.
